I recently bought a house. When I had it inspected, the water pressure was great. Then two days before I moved in, my house was winterized adn all the valves were turned off. I have turned on the main, the toilets and sinks, but the showers and tubs seem to be acting like the valve is practically off. Everything else is perfect. Is there a valve I am missing? If so, where could it be located at?
BTW, I have no access panels for the shower or bathtub. I have checked the attic but no valves there and I don't have a basement. Is there something that I could be missing? My shower and bath pressure is very low. Could there be a valve off?
turn the water off at the meter.take the faucets apart
and see if a gasket is blocked.or look for a leak outside. My shower and bath pressure is very low. Could there be a valve off?
Start at where the water enters the house, I'm sure you've done that , and re close and reopen every valve. Sometimes, with gate valves (the kind that have a knob that require multiple turns) they develop a certain amount of wear which translates as turning but not opening or not opening fully. If you rotate the valve fully ccw till it stops it should take perhaps 3 or 4 or so rotations. If it takes more thats okay as long as it doesn't just keep turning. If it does you have a bad valve thats not opening though it seems like it is. If you have a ball valve you don't have this ambiguity, just put the handle in line with the flow. Finally, check the aerators at the faucet, these get clogged with debris.
may be the cut offs on the tubs are not on all the way,or it could be calcium that has broke loose when you turned on the main, and as far as how to check for cut offs, that depends on what type of fixtures you have
if there is another sink in the house with adequate pressure that tells you either of two things.
one, a valve is half way closed, which is is hard to believe because if the house was winterized and they had access to the valves then you should have access now.
two, if the house was empty for a long while, could be that the water lines are clogged with dirt and rust particles. take off the shower head and sink head and clean the heads.
if there is no water pressure in the whole house, it could be that there was a pump adding pressure to your lines and you have to turn it on.
good luck
